CD Launch for Silver Girl

KILMORE East resident Carol Pullar is set to launch her debut album next weekend.

Silver Girl is a mix of easy listening, classics, and musical theatre numbers to strike a chord with those who remember times gone by.

Carol grew up in Melbourne and has always been a passionate singer, although after nega- tive comments about her vocals during her teens, she stopped singing for almost two decades.

The passion to sing became a need, when six years ago Carol joined the Lancefield Singers and gave singing another chance.

The decision to shift form choir to a solo CD was something that started three years ago.

After discussing with her father, who was of ailing health, that he wished her to sing at his funeral, Carol decided recording songs would be easier than trying to sing live at such a diffi- cult event.

This idea grew and expanded as Carol thought why shouldn’t her dad hear her songs now?

The album was born, and has been the labour of the last three years, which was a secret from all family and friends until a mere two weeks ago.

With help from singing teacher, Brunswick- based Marilla Homes, she was ready to pursue the mammoth task of recording.

Her father’s continued health problems, including a cancer scare in May, has spurred Carol on to finishing the album before Christmas.

After three weeks of recording in a studio in Eaglemont, including three hours a night for two nights a week, Silver Girl is ready for her unveiling.

Even a throat infection in the first week of recording could not stop Carol’s determination to finish her album.

Carol, a district resident for the last seven years, is known in the district for her perform- ances with choir Radius, who have been fea- tures at Australia Day celebrations, district

Christmas Carols, Kilmore Celtic Festival and last month’s Voices Around the Campfire.

She is also involved with the Star Chorale choir based in Kew, including performing this Sunday afternoon in support of the Jane Elton Brown Music Performance Award.

Music runs in the blood, as Carol’s mum was a singer in the Carols by Candlelight Choir, and her sister is a musician.

Her inspiration comes from musical theatre greats Debbie Renyolds, Bing Crosby and Gene Kelly and female superstars like Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, and Eva Cassidy.

The album includes Ave Maria, The Rose, and Memory from Cats, and Cabaret’s Maybe This Time.

The Silver Girl CD launch will be held at the John Taylor Room in Kilmore Library on Sunday, December 9, from 12.30pm to 3pm.

Carol will be singing songs from her new album, accompanied by some musical guests.

Entry costs $5, with children under 12 free of charge.

Copies of Silver Girl will be available for pur- chase at $20.

A secondary launch will be held on Friday, December 7, from 7pm at the Old Shire Offices in Heidelberg.
